Genre: Romance
Summary: Christmas Time is right around the corner and all the couples are getting ready for it... except one. Yuto and his girlfriend haven't talked for the past two week due to one of their usual arguments. But when Yuto believe his girlfriend might be cheating on him and was planning on being with him for Christmas, he takes one chance to show him he's the better man.
“Happy Holidays! Have an awesome break!” the students were all greeting each other as they headed out of school for winter break.
“You still haven't talked to him?!” Kei screamed as the trio drank hot chocolate in a coffee shot that afternoon. She sighed, “No I haven't. Look I'll talk to him tonight ok?” The two sighed in relief as Hikaru told her, “Alright, so what are you planning to do with him tonight? It had better be something really romantic.”
“Happy Holidays! Have an awesome break!” the students were all greeting each other as they headed out of school for winter break.
“Yuto~!” he heard as he walked out. His best friend approached him, “Hey, ready for our two week vacation?” He smiled, “Of course I am, Ryosuke. It's about time we got a break from school.”
“A good time to relax and hang out with friends.” Ryosuke agreed. “And maybe even take Kaori out...” Yuto's smile vanished, “Oh, yea...” Ryosuke asked, “Are you two still in a fight?” He nodded. “Yuto, its been a week... don't you think it's time to forgive and forget?”
“What's the point? We're only gonna fight again...” he sighed. “It happens all the time.”
“She's your girlfriend. Do you really want to leave things as they are? Especially with Christmas approaching?” he told him. Yuto was silent as Ryosuke thought, “Reina and I are going to the candle lighting event together on Christmas Eve. Why don't you and Kaori come with us?” Then they heard, “It will be a great way to spend your first Christmas together.” Reina approached them as Ryosuke put an arm around her with a smile.
“I dunno...” he sighed. “Kaori and I... we've really been at each other lately...” Reina replied. “Come on! It'll be fun! A nice romantic evening with her. Then you go to the candle lighting event and you get to make a wish together and write your names on the candle. Doesn't that sound romantic?! It's every girl's dream!”
“Well, Kaori isn't every girl. She's different than most girls.” he answered.
“Either way, it will still be a nice experience.” Ryosuke told him as he stopped at the fork in the road. “Just think about it. You still have a few days before Christmas Eve... just let us know.” He nodded, “Alright... I'll think about it.”
“Great. I'm gonna take Reina home. You should talk to Kaori.” he told him. “I'll see you soon.”
“See ya.”
“Still?! Kaori, you are unbelievable!” her two best friends scolded her as they walked home. She shrugged, “What's so unbelievable about it? All couples get into fights.” Hikaru told her, “Yea, but not as often as you and Yuto do. And it takes you both forever to apologize to each other.”
“Hey, I shouldn't be apologizing. I'm right and he knows it. He's the stubborn one who won't apologize to me.” she pouted. Her other friend, Kei said, “You're just as hard-headed as he is! Who cares if you're right? What kind of relationship is it if you're both avoiding each other?”
“So we get into fights and ignore each other... its just a phase.” she stated as Hikaru told her, “One that's been lasting since you two got together 5 months ago! Come on, Kaori. It's Christmas time! The perfect opportunity to improve your relationship with him! Just make up with him already and have a nice romantic Christmas together!”
“I'm not apologizing for being right.” she stated strongly. Kei sighed, “Your fight was a week ago. Just get over it and move on.”
“It's not my fault Yuto's being a jealous boyfriend, but you guys are my best friends so he can't get mad at me for hanging out with you guys when I want.” she replied. “ There's no way I'm apologizing for that.”
“But it's understandable.” Hikaru told her. “If I had a girlfriend, I'd get jealous if she hung out with other guys too much.” She stated, “Well, you guys are like brothers to me and he knows it so he shouldn't be so upset that I'm always with you two!”
“But we aren't your brothers. Kaori, you still hang out with us all the time. You should be spending more time with Yuto.” Hikaru responded.
“... hey, its break time~! Let's go do something fun for vacation.” she smiled, changing the subject.
“Kaori.” they both gave her a look as she continued, “Oh! We should go snowboarding at a resort! Come on guys! Sounds like a fun Christmas adventure!” Kei scolded, “Stop changing the subject. You need to fix your relationship with Yuto or you won't have a relationship with him!”
“You guys want to come? It won't be as much fun without you.” she continued on.
“Ugh... stubborn as always.” Hikaru sighed. But then he lit up, “Kaori~! That trip does sound like fun!”
“I know right?! So are you guys in?!” she smiled as Kei groaned, “Hikaru! Not you too...” He nodded, “Sure, but on one condition.”
“Name it.” she responded as he told her, “You make up with Yuto and have a good romantic Christmas with him. Then we can plan a trip to a resort.” Kei smiled, “Great idea.”
“Guys...” she groaned. Hikaru shrugged, “The choice is up to you. We gotta get going. See you.” They began walking off as she followed, “Where are you going? We all live that way.” She pointed at the way they were headed, but Kei said, “We... have something to do.”
“What?” she asked unconvinced.
“...It's... guy stuff.” Hikaru said. “Bye!” They quickly ran off as she pouted and headed home.
“*tsk* Man...” Yuto groaned as he walked around town a few days later. He past multiple shops but nothing seemed to catch his interest. He sighed, “What am I even doing here? It's not like Kaori would even appreciate a gift I get her...” He was about to head home when he saw Kaori walking by.
“Um, he was asleep in my room when I left this morning. He's probably still there.” he heard her say into her cell phone. “Yea, he's staying with me until Christmas.” She walked into a store as Yuto thought worried, “What... some guy is living with her?” He followed her in as he felt a pain within his chest.
“Are you sure about this? I mean it looks so cheap.” Kaori said into the phone as she looked at the box in her hand. “What if its fake? I really think a doctor would be a more reliable source... Alright, I'll call you afterwards.” She hung up and headed for the check out as Yuto thought to himself, holding in his pain, “W-why would Kaori be buying a pregnancy test?! She can't--- she couldn't have-” He looked to see her leave the store as he quickly went to see Ryosuke.
“WHAT?!” Ryosuke screamed as Yuto explained. He groaned, “... wow... that doesn't sound good at all. Um, maybe its a cousin living with her?”
“Why would her cousin be sleeping in the same bed as her?” Yuto whined. He thought, “Well, maybe he has a back problem so she didn't want him sleeping on the floor?” Yuto shook his head sadly, “There's an extra room in her house.”
“Wait! Her parents would never let someone else sleep with her! So there must have been some sort of misunderstanding.” he lit up. Yuto answered, “Her parents have been away on a business trip for the past month. They don't get back until New Years... I don't know what to do, Ryosuke... I--” Ryosuke then saw tears forming in his eyes. He thought, “Look, Yuto. If she's cheating on you, she doesn't deserve you. Dump her next time you see her.”
“But... I don't want to lose her...” he sniffled. “Despite the fights we get into, our relationship is always the best. She's always so adventurous so we're always having a good time and she's funny and adorable at times. She so cute when she's embarrassed...and the way she smiles when she's with me, I can't help but smile.”
“... Yuto.” Ryosuke smiled. “Then I think you already know what to do. Win her back. That other guy has no chance against you!” He then lit up, “Yuto! You should give her the best Christmas ever! Make it as romantic as you can and you might be able to get her back.”
“I guess that's my only option.” he sighed. “Ryosuke... can you and Reina help me out?”
“Of course.” he smiled.
“Alright, this is perfect!” Kaori lit up as she looked through the website on her computer. She smiled happily as stared at the large hills where people were skiing and snowboarding. She then heard her cell phone ring as she smiled, “Hey, Kei. What's up?” He responded, “Did you make up with Yuto yet?”
“Would you stop bugging me about that?” She pouted. “Seriously, if that's the only reason you're calling me then I'm hanging up.” He sighed, “Kaori, come on. I'm just worried about you. I don't want you doing something you'll regret.” She said, “I know what I'm doing ok-- Oh, hang on, Hikaru's calling. I'll three way. Hey Hikaru. Kei's on the line too.”
“Did you talk to Yuto yet?” Hikaru asked as she groaned, “Seriously... you too? Come on guys. This is my problem. I'll handle it myself.” They both sighed as Hikaru teased, “You won't get to go on your trip if you don't talk to him.”
“That's fine. I decided I don't need you two to come with me.” she smiled. Kei thought, “There is no way you're going by yourself.”
“Now why would I go alone? That's no fun.” she answered as Hikaru thought, “Then who are you going with?”
“You'll see.” she beamed. “I'll take some pictures. But I need to set up a reservations for the trip so I'll talk to you later. Bye!”
“Wait, Kaori--” she hung up as she finished her reservation and smiled, “Reservation for two. I hope he'll like this.”
~Christmas Eve~
“You still haven't talked to him?!” Kei screamed as the trio drank hot chocolate in a coffee shot that afternoon. She sighed, “No I haven't. Look I'll talk to him tonight ok?” The two sighed in relief as Hikaru told her, “Alright, so what are you planning to do with him tonight? It had better be something really romantic.”
“You know I suck at doing romantic things....” she gave him a look. “And I didn't actually plan something tonight.”
“What?!” Hikaru yelled. “But it's Christmas Eve! You should've made plans with him!”
“You know that we haven't talked to each other since our fight.” she sighed.
“Urgh... what is wrong with you?” Hikaru groaned. Kaori told them, “Look guys, I'll see what I can do ok? But it's not gonna be anything big. I do have to talk to him about something... and I'll give him a gift, but that's about it... I'll keep you updated okay?” She looked at the clock, “I need to get some stuff done. I'll catch you guys later.”
“Everything ready?” Ryosuke asked that evening. Yuto nodded, “I hope she likes it...”
“Any girl would love this~!” Reina smiled. “Now the last thing... call her.” He nodded and left the room, so he can talk to her privately. As he nervously dialed her number, his heart raced as he heard the ringing.
“Hey, Yuto.” he heard her sweet voice as she said, “I'm glad you called. I needed to talk to you.” He stuttered, “S-Same here. Are you busy tonight?”
“Not at all. Let's meet up.” she told him as he responded, “Yea. I'll pick you up at your place?” She answered, “Um, I guess. What time will you be here?”
“Is 15 minutes fine?” he wondered as she answered, “15 minutes? I just finished making dinner.”
“B-But I... I had a dinner planned for us.” he said worried about how the night would work out. She replied, “Y-you did... alright. 15 minutes is fine-- oh hang on.” He nodded as he then heard, “Riku~! Riku! Dinner's ready!” Then she said, “So I'll get ready. I'll see you soon.”
“Y-Yea...”
“Yuto? Are you okay?” she asked. “You sound... a bit weird.”
“I-I'm fine.” he said quickly. “I'll see you soon.” He hung up and groaned as Ryosuke asked, “So, is she coming?” He sighed, “I'm gonna pick her up.”
“... what happened? Why do you sound depressed again?”
“Riku.” Yuto groaned. “That's the guy's name and he's eating her homemade dinner.”
“She cooks?” he said surprised. Yuto nodded, “I guess so... this Riku gets to eat her homemade meals, but I haven't... and I'm her boyfriend...”
“Relax, Yuto. You have to be your best tonight. Especially if you want to continue being with Kaori.” he tried to motivate him. Yuto nodded, “You're right. I need to amaze her tonight. This has to be the best night of her life.”
“That's the spirit! Now get over there!” Ryosuke encouraged him. “Don't even bother with that Riku guy. All that's important is Kaori.” He nodded, “Alright. Thanks Ryosuke... and tell Reina thanks too. I'll see you guys later.” He headed out as did Ryosuke and Reina.
*Knock Knock Knock*
“Coming.” Kaori called as she hurried to the door. She grabbed her jacket and opened the door, “Hey Yuto.” She locked the door and smiled, “Let's get going.” He nodded as he asked, “Sorry about the late notice...”
“It's okay. I mean... how could you let me know? We've been ignoring each other lately.” she sighed. “So where are we going?” He smiled, “It's a surprise.” She rolled her eyes, “A surprise? Come on! You know how curious I can be! Tell!”
“Nope~! You're gonna have to wait.” he beamed as she groaned, “Urgh. Fine.” They got in his car as he drove off. “Oh shoot... I forgot something at home.”
“What?” she wondered. He answered, “Your Christmas present.”
“Oh... you didn't-”
“Yes I did.” he told her as he pulled into his driveway. “Come on.” He unlocked his front door and entered as Kaori followed him in. As he turned on the lights to the dining room, an amazed look appeared on her face.
“Y-Yuto?! Did you do all this?!” she said with a small blush on her face.
“With some help from Ryosuke.” he smiled. “Merry Christmas, Kaori.” She smiled happily as she stared at the beautiful chandelier with pretty snowflakes hanging on it, as if fluttering down from the sky. There was fake snow all over the floor as well as a smiling snowman in the corner. The table looked like ice, with delicious smelling food resting on top of it. A pretty candle was in the center of the table adding a romantic touch to this Winter Wonderland.
“Have a seat.” Yuto said, pulling out her chair for her.
“Thanks.” she smiled as she sat down. He took his seat in front of her as she beamed, “Wow... did you make this all yourself?!” He nodded. “It looks amazing! It must have taken you a while to make.”
“Anything for you Kaori. Enjoy.” he told her as she nodded. They ate silently for the first few minutes. Kaori then broke the silence, “Yuto. I kinda want to talk about something. Our last argument.”
“... about Kei and Hikaru?” he wondered a bit edgy. She nodded, “I want to repeat. They're practically brothers to me. So I shouldn't be told to stop hanging out with them.”
“I didn't tell you to stop hanging out with them. I said to stop hanging out with them so much.” he corrected as she groaned, “Even so, I should have the choice of who I hang out with.” He nodded, “Yea...I might have over reacted about it and I'm sorry.”
“....I'm sorry too.” she sighed as he gave her a look. She continued, “I know I'm right about this... but that doesn't mean you can't be right either.” She smiled a bit, “I really miss having you around... and Kei and Hikaru can't fill up that void. I should spend more time with you.”
“... wait, you're actually apologizing? Can you please repeat that?” he teased as she groaned, “I'm sorry! Enjoy it... I'm not saying it again-” She didn't even notice that he had gotten up and hugged her. She turned red, “Geez, what's up with you today Yuto?”
“...N-Nothing. I've just really missed you too.” he stated. “Let's finish eating. There's still more planned for tonight.” She gave him a look, “Seriously? Why are you doing so much?!”
“It's Christmas.” he stated. “I want tonight to be the best. Now let's finish.” And as soon as they were done, they headed off again.
“Okay, it's kinda cheesy so don't laugh...” Yuto told her as they approached their destination. “I just really wanted to do it with you.” She smiled, “A candle lighting wish making event? Haha cute~!”
“I said don't laugh.” he beamed as they got out of the car. As they walked towards all the other couples, they heard, “Yuto! Kaori!” They turned to see Reina and Ryosuke. Reina smiled, “Glad to see you two made it! And just in time too, it's almost midnight! Here, we got you guys a candle. No need to wait in that endless line.”
“Thanks you two.” Yuto smiled. “You've both been such a great help to me.” Ryosuke nodded, “Anytime. Come on, Reina.” They ran off as Kaori asked, “Shouldn't we go too?” Yuto nodded as they headed over to the pyramid of candles. All of the gleaming lights had names written on them as snow fell, making it look even more magical. Kaori took the candle, grabbed a marker off a nearby table, and scribbled on their names.
“Now, a wish.” she smiled.
“What about.... more Christmases for us to spend together?” Yuto stated nervously. Kaori turned red as Yuto smiled at her adorable face. She smiled, “I like that wish. More Christmases for us to share together.” They then both placed their candle with the others and smiled at it. They turned to each other as Yuto leaned into her and they shared a kiss. And as the clock struck midnight everyone there began yelling, “Merry Christmas!!!”
“Merry Christmas...” Kaori smiled happily as Yuto did in response.
“You won't hear me say this often... but even if it was super romantic and cliché... it was a lot of fun.” she smiled as he drove her home. Yuto laughed, “Kaori actually likes something cliche?! Wow, I must be dreaming.”
“Shut up.” she laughed giving him a slight push. “... This was a really fun Christmas.”
“I'm glad you enjoyed it.” he beamed as he pulled into her driveway.
“So you amazed me tonight, Yuto. Sadly, I don't think my gift is as awesome as yours has been.” she sighed. “But I should still give it to you. Come on. It's inside.” She headed for the door as he nervously followed, remembering who was inside.
“Kaori, wait.” he stopped her from unlocking the door. “... You know I love you right?” She nodded as he asked, “And you love me...right?”
“Of course I do!” she told him as he asked, “Then... if I asked you something, you would tell me the truth?” She sighed, “Yuto, what's this all about?” He said, “I saw you buy a pregnancy test a couple days ago. And I keep hearing you talk about some guy name Riku living with you. What's going on Kaori? A-Are you cheating on me? Are you pregnant? Did you...” He continued on as Kaori smiled and kissed him, stopping him from speaking.
“You're such a dork.” she told him. “You're as insecure as ever.”
“That didn't answer my question.” he pouted. She giggled, “I'll introduce you to Riku, ok? Then we'll talk.” She unlocked the door as they went in. She called, “Riku!” After a few seconds, Yuto heard footsteps. A surprised look appeared on his face as he was then tackled down by Riku. Kaori just laughed as Riku began licking his face and barking happily.
“Riku... is a dog?” Yuto said shocked. Kaori nodded, “Yup. He's my cousin's. She went on a trip with her husband so she asked me to take care of him while she's away.”
“And.. he sleeps in your bed?”
“At the foot of my bed. He's such a baby. Doesn't like sleeping alone.” She said patting his head. She then said, “And the pregnancy test is also for my cousin. She was too embarrassed to buy one herself so she asked me to get it for her.” He sighed in relief as Kaori giggled, “You are just too cute Yuto.” He smiled as he hugged her, “I was so worried I was losing you to another guy.”
“Yuto, I'm your girlfriend, okay?” she said confidently. “There's no way I'd cheat on you. I-- I love you and you alone.” She blushed at her last statement as he chuckled. She sighed, “Just know that. Even if I am hanging out with other guys... I'm only in love with you.”
“I will. Thanks.” he said as she pulled away from his hug. She went over to the kitchen counter and grabbed a letter on the table as he took a seat on the couch. She gave it to him with a smile, “Merry Christmas Yuto~!” He opened it and stared at the two tickets.
“A trip to a ski resort?” he said surprised. She nodded, sitting with him, “At first, I wanted to go with Kei and Hikaru... but it'll be a lot more fun with just you.”
“Just the two of us? For an entire weekend?” he blushed as she did the same.
“Y-yea. I thought it would be fun.” she said embarrassed. “But if you don't---” She was cut off with his lips on her. He pulled away and smiled, “I can't wait for this weekend.” She hugged him happily and smiled as she heard his racing heart beat within his chest. He began to pull away as she stopped him, continuing to lay on him, with his arms around her.
“Kaori?” he wondered as looked down to see her embarrassed face.
“... I'm only saying this once...” she blushed. “If I can't hear your heartbeat... you're too far away from me.” Yuto turned red at her statement, but smiled, “This has been the greatest Christmas ever.” She cuddled into him, “Yea, and I'm glad we got to spend it together.” Yuto nodded as they snuggled into each other, that snowy cold evening.
