Gaea's Locket Ch. 16

“Hmm... I hope I got the right place...” Hikaru said standing outside the front door. He knocked on the door, a bit nervous as he awaited an answer.

“Yes?” he heard as the door open. He was glad to see that he had the right place, but it was her sister, Kaori who had answered the door. She then recognized him, “Hey... you're one of Keito's friends right?”

“Y-Yeah! I am!” he said formally. “Umm... is Rini there...” Kaori raised an eyebrow, “She's out right now. What do you want with Rini?”

“I- I well...” he stutter than pleaded, “Please give me permission to go on a date with your sister!”

“What?” she gave him a look.

“I like you sister... will you please allow me to take her out today?” he asked. Kaori thought and said, “Come in and we'll talk.” He did as she let him take a seat in the living room. She sighed, “So you want to date Rini?” He nodded as she said, “How do you know her?”

“We met at the party a few days ago, but I had a really great time with her.. and I was hoping to get to know her more...” he said shyly. He fidgeted nervously as Kaori continued to question him, “What do you do for a living?”

“Different jobs... right now I'm assistant manager at a music store. I was working with Keito and Daiki before on their search for the locket... I just do whatever well paying job that comes along.” he stated.

“Hmmm....” she continued glaring at him as he gulped nervously. “What do you do in your free time? What about hobbies?”

“Um... I hang out wit friends or just go out for some fun.” he thought. “I like DJing... like at the party.. I have a lot of fun with that. Music is fun, but I like trying lots of new things.” She continued staring at him attentively as he asked, “Is... that it?”

“If I do let you and Rini go out today... what do you plan to do with her?” she wondered.

“Oh... we'll I haven't thought about it that far...” he blushed. “We could hang out at the park. Oh and I'll take her to get some lunch and then... we can go to the mall.. girls like that right? I'd be happy to--”

“Kaori! I'm home!” they heard Rini's voice as Hikaru tensed up nervous. Kei called, “Ready to get some lunch?” They came into the living room as Rini smiled, “Oh, Hikaru's here. What brings you here?”

“Ah, Rini! I-well...” he stuttered as Kaori sighed standing up, “He wanted to ask you something. Go ahead, Hikaru...”

“D-Do you want to go out with me today?” he blushed. She giggled, “Out? Sure, sounds like fun! Ah, Kaori, Kei you two don't mind do you?”

“Of course not. GO have fun.” Kei smiled as Kaori nodded, “It's all up to you. Just let me know where you'll be.”

“Alright. Just let me drop off my bag in my room first.” Rini smiled excitedly as she ran to her room. Hikaru sighed in relief as Kaori then told him, “Hey, you better watch out for her got it?”

“Yes, ma'am!” Hikaru said confidently. “I will take good care of your little sister!”

“Good.”

“Ready.” Rini said as she came to the living room. They headed out as Hikaru said, “What time should I have her home by?”

“Before 10.” she answered. Hikaru nodded, “Alright then. See you guys.” They got into his car and drove off.

~

“Got it!” Rini cheered as she caught the football and Hikaru began running after her. She past the water fountain as she cheered, “Touchdown! I win!”

“Damn... you're fast Rini!” Hikaru smiled as he caught up. She beamed, “Ready for another game?”

“Alright, let's do it.” he smiled as they continued playing sports in the park. But as Hikaru got a drink of water he thought he saw someone watching them, but shrugged it off. He then asked, “Hey, Rini. Why don't we head over to the mall and then we can grab some lunch?”

“Alright, let's go.” she said heading back to car and took off for the mall.

~

“Come on! Don't lose them.” Kaori said as they followed after Rini and Hikaru. Kei nodded and drove off as he asked, “Is this a really good idea? Why don't we just leave them alone? They seem to be doing fine.”

“Kei, just keep driving. I just want to make sure Rini will be ok...” she stated.

“She's fine. Just leave them alone, Kaori--” he said as she suddenly became a bird and flew after them. He sighed and said to himself, “And I can't believe that the first time you're actually using your powers, on your own free will, is when you're spying on your sister.”

~

“Aww~ This is so cute~!” Rini smiled as she looked through the stores animal plushies. Hikaru smiled at her happy face as he asked, “Which do you want? I'll get it for you.” She answered, “You don't need to--” He interrupted, “It's fine. I want to.” She beamed, “Really?! Thanks Hikaru~! I really like this one!” She held up the little puppy plush as they continued to browse around other stores.

~

“Hmmm....” Kaori looked to see the two walk into a music store. They were both smiling happily and laughing as she heard, “Do they know you're spying on them?”

“Ah!” she fell in surprise as Yuto laughed at her, “Haha, I guess not.” She pouted getting up, “What are you doing here?”

“It's the mall. Anyone can be here...” he stated. “So why are you spying on your sister?”

“It's none of your business ok?” she answered as she looked back to them. He then stood in front of her, blocking her view, “Is this really how you spend your free time?”

“Do you have a problem with the way I use my free time?” she said annoyed.

“A bit... I missed you at my party last night..” he pointed out.

“Sorry. I had a lot of work to get done.” she answered as he nodded, “Yea... Shirika mentioned that to me... but you do still owe me lunch.” She thought, “Sorry, Kei and I are getting lunch. He should be on his way here now...” He groaned, “Is there something going on between you and Kei?”

“Haha, why? You jealous?” she teased.

“Why would I be jealous?” he answered a bit annoyed.

“Haha, you're so jealous.” she giggled as Yuto gave her a look, “I am not. So when are you free to get lunch then?”

“Not sure... its weird not having lunch with my best friend...” she thought.

“Fine. Then I guess I'll have to join you and Kei for lunch today.” he stated as she jumped, “What?!”

“You heard me... I'll have lunch with both of you--”

“Kaori, are you done yet?!” they heard as Kei approached them. “Oh, hey Yuto.”

“Hi...” Yuto said, a bit annoyed with his appearance. Kei then said, “Can we please stop stalking you sister and get some lunch?”

“But—oh no! Yuto!” Kaori pouted as she whacked his arm. She saw that they were no longer the store. They were gone. “You made me lose them!”

“Ow... sorry...” he pouted. Kei sighed in relief, “Great, now let's get some lunch.”

“I'm joining you guys.” Yuto stated as Kaori groaned, “It's a best friend outing... right Kei?”

“I'm willing to pay for lunch today.” Yuto told him. Kaori panicked shaking her head furiously, but Kei smiled, “Oh, well then sure.” Kaori panicked, “Wha—Kei!”

“What?! It's his treat. You expect me to turn down a free lunch.” he smiled. “Shall we go to World Cuisines?” Kaori sighed, “Fine...”

“Great, let's go.” he stated as he headed to his car and he drove off.

~

“So, now for lunch. Shall we head to World Cuisines?” Hikaru asked. Rini shook her head, “No way. My sister and Kei always have lunch there. They'll just bug us. How about over there?” She pointed to a small cafe as he nodded. They took their seats and ordered as Rini then asked, “So... I've been wondering all day... why did you decide to ask me out?”

“Oh... um, well...” he thought. “I-I had a lot of fun at the party with you the other day. And I wanted to get to know you more.” She smiled, with a small blush, “R-really? Well... I'm glad you did. I got to know more about you too, Hikaru~! And I'm having a really great time!”

“I'm glad.” he stated. “I wanted today to be a good day.”

“Well, you succeed.” she beamed. They began to eat their food as they continued to discussing their interests.

~

"Haha, no way!” Yuto laughed as Kei nodded, “Seriously, she acts like she a tomboy most of the time, but when it comes to guys, she just a girly girl. I remember once she would even doodle his name in hearts!” Kaori, now really red, whacked his head, “Kei! Stop talking about it!” She was red in the face, really embarrassed , “T-there all lies...”

“Haha and denial is the first step to knowing if she's crushing on someone.” Kei pointed out as she turned more red. She whacked him again, “Change the damn subject already!” Yuto teased, “Awww, you're so embarrassed.... its too cute.” She covered her red face as he laughed, “You know you have even cuter reactions than Yuki.”

“S-shut up...” she said turning away.

“Well, I'm gonna run to the restroom and then we can head off.” Kei stated as he left Yuto and Kaori alone.

“... so I finally went to lunch with you... are you gonna get off my back now?” she told him as he sighed, “Do I annoy you that much?” She looked at him, noticing a hurt look on his face as she answered, “What? No way... besides all the time you've been pestering me to go out with you.. you are a pretty fun guy...”

“Haha, really?” he smiled. “Well how about I show you a fun time? But it's just gonna have to be just you and me...” She smiled, “Hmmm... will it really be fun with just two people?” He nodded, “Come on, don't you trust me?”

“... alright.” She lit up as she stood up. “But I have an idea in mind...”

“Okay. We'll do what you want to do and then I'll pick the next activity.” he said as she nodded. They headed for the door, “You did pay already right?”

“Yup. Why?” he wondered as they headed for the door. She smiled, “Because I don't want to make Kei any madder than we are now...” She pulled out Kei's keys from her pocket as he said, “When did you take that?”

“When it fell out of his pocket on the way into the restaurant.” she beamed. “It's so easy to swipe things from him. Now get in or I'm leaving you behind.” He chuckled and got in as she drove off.

~

“What?!” Kei screamed as he got Kaori's text. He ran out of the restaurant to see that his car was gone. He groaned, “Damn it Kaori! How am I suppose to get home now?!” He tried to call her but she wouldn't pick up. “Urgh... great...”

“Um... are you ok?” he heard as he saw a familiar girl approach him. He then recognized her, “Oh, Yui right? The pastry chef here?” She nodded.

“Uh, yea I'm fine.... just a little pissed.” he explained. “My friend took my car... and now I don't have a ride home.” She smiled, “That girl who was the eagle right?” He nodded as she then offered, “I could give you a ride if you'd like.”

“Really?! That would be great... if it isn't too much trouble.”

“Don't worry about it.” Yui smiled walking towards her car. “Hop in.” He did as she drove off.

~

“Are you sure about this? We're just one away!” Keito complained as Yuki dragged him around the small village. They were browsing around enjoying the cool weather as she scolded, “I told you not to bring that up! We are on vacation and you are going to enjoy it! Alright?! No more work talk!”

“but--” he stopped as she glared at him. “Fine.”

“Great!” she beamed. “Come on!” She dragged him into multiple stores, happily adoring the cute little trinkets as Keito smiled at her silliness. They even hung out at an arcade as they two versed each other at a racing game.

“Ha! Eat my dust!” Yuki smiled as she got ahead of him. The two were neck and neck, when Keito pulled ahead right at the finish line. “NO!”

“Haha, looks like I won this round.” Keito smiled as she glared, “I demand a rematch!” He shrugged as they continued to play for the next few hours, but every time, Keito seemed to win. Yuki pouted, “You're cheating!”

“Haha, how can I cheat?” he teased.

“I-I dunno but you are...” she pouted angrily turning away from him. He laughed, “Heh. Okay, how about I treat you to some ice cream? Will that make you feel better?” She perked up and smiled cheerfully, “REALLY?!” He smiled with a nodded as she enthusiastically nodded, “Yes please!”

~

“Where are we?” Yuto wondered as they stood outside a building at the edge of the city. She smiled, “You'll know when we get inside. I've been dying to try this out... Get ready for some real fun.” The two headed in as they saw a bunch of planes and jets. He thought, “Whoa! Are we gonna fly these things?!”

“Not quite...” she smiled as she heard. “Heh, that's a familiar voice... That you, Kaori?”

“Sure is.” she called as a guy maybe in his early thirties emerged from under a plane. He stood up, “Damn... Been a while. How've you been, kid?”

“Pretty good. Think you could hook me and my friend up with a ride?” She asked pointing to Yuto. He thought, “Are you dragging me on some kind of date?” She rolled her eyes as she whispered something in his ear. Yuto tried to listen but he couldn't hear a thing. The guy laughed loudly, “Haha, you never change, Ri. Alright, I'll get a plane ready.”

“Kaori, what's going on?” he wondered as she smiled, “Sora, this is my friend, Yuto. Yuto, this is Sora, my cousin. He's a pilot.” Yuto held out a hand, “Nice to meet you, sir.” Sora shook it, “You too, kid. You sure got some major guts or you just really like Kaori... I wouldn't be man enough to try. But I guess if your dating a girl like Kaori you gotta be ready for stuff like this.”

“Like what?” he questioned confused.

“Give me 10 minutes and we'll take off.” Sora said walking off. He asked, “Kaori... I feel so clueless. Please fill me in on what were doing?”

“It's no fun if it's not a surprise.” she winked as she headed towards a plane. Yuto sighed, “What did I get myself into?”

~

“Wow really?” Yui giggled as she drove. Kei sighed with a nod, “Yea... She's always so troublesome... it's like she enjoys seeing my in pain. But I guess that's Kaori.” She thought, “Well, you did say she was like a little sister to you. She seems like an adventurous girl so maybe she just gets a little impatient at times.”

“I guess... but stealing my car?! Really?!” he groaned. “Sadly, this isn't even the first time its happened...”

“Haha. I guess you're just an easy target.” she giggled. “Maybe you just have to put your foot done sometimes. She's probably just so use to messing with you, it seems like a regular thing for her now.” She then turned towards the grocery store, “Do you mind if I make a stop? I need to gather some ingredients.”

“Of course not.” Kei smiled. “And I'd be happy to give you a hand.”

“Thanks~” she smiled as the two headed into the store.

~

“Whoa...” Yuki looked at the sky to see how dark it had gotten. “It's only been a few hours but it looks like the sun has already set... I guess its gonna rain soon.” Keito nodded, “We should probably head back---” A loud sound of thunder echoed through the sky as Yuki groaned as rain trickled down hitting the now puddles of water on the ground, “Great... and we don't have an umbrella to get back- Keito?” She looked to see that he was gone. “Keito?! Where are you?!” She quickly ran back into the arcade in search of him.

~

“WHAT ARE WE DOING?!” Yuto yelled over the loud engine of the plane. They had taken off into the sky a couple minutes ago and he was really confused at what was happening. As the plane began to soar calmly ahead, Kaori had taken off her belt and led him to the back. She yelled back as she opened the back of the plane door, “Surprise~!!!! We're going skydiving!”

“WHAT?!” he panicked as he caught the parachute she had thrown at his chest. She placed hers on her back as she smiled, “We're going skydiving now hurry up and put your parachute on!”

“I heard you the first time!” he stated. “Are you crazy?!”

“Nope. I just like doing adventurous things.” she beamed. “I thought you did too!”

“I do, but this is way too crazy!” he panicked as she teased, “What? Are you scared of heights?!”

“N-No! Pft! I'm not scared!” he faked as he put the parachute on his back.

“Good. Then maybe you'd like to go first?” she said standing out of his way.

“What?!” he said with agitation. She smiled, “If you're not afraid then you won't mind going first...”

“Oh.. a-alright... I will...” he said as he stood at the door. He slowly leaned his head out to look as anxiety filled his whole body. He stared down as he saw the soft clouds slowly moving by. Right below it he could see miles and miles of the ground. The grassy green trees looked like little specs and the ocean, like a large swimming pool. He gulped in as he stuttered, “T-this is nothing... I-I-I thought this would be a challenge.”

“Heh. Then let's go.” she smirked as she waited patiently for him to go. “The target landing spot is coming up so you better get going soon or we'll miss it.” He was still frozen as Kaori giggled, “It's so cute how you fake being brave...”

“I don't fake --” he was interuppted as Kaori jumped, but little did he realize that she had grabbed his hand, pulling him down with her.

“AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!” Yuto screamed afraid as he grasped Kaori tightly. She laughed as she said, “Yuto! Get off or you're gonna kill both of us!”

“What the hell did you drag me down with you for?!” He panicked. “I swear if I die, I will kill you!!!”

“That doesn't make any sense!” she yelled over the loud sound of rushing air. “Yuto move your arm!!!” Just as he did, she pulled on his chute release as he parachute opened and he slowly swayed in the air. Kaori quickly pulled hers and followed suit. The two slowly drifted down, still with hands interlocked as Kaori smiled, “See, not so bad right?”

“.... yea...” he took in some breaths calming down. He still had a tight grip on her hand as he sighed with a small smile, “Wow... that was a huge adrenaline rush...”

“And really fun right?” she asked as he said, “Well, not when you're getting pulled outta plane millions of feet off the ground.” She laughed, “It only a few hundred.” He gave her a look as she said, “Well at least take a look at the view... you won't get to see one this nice that often.” He did as he stared off at the beautiful scene before his eyes. The sun was setting softly behind the lake a few miles from them. The top of the trees added a nice touch to this eye catching scene as well as the soft breeze flowing by. Kaori gripped his hand a bit and smiled, “Impressive Yuto... I think if you can survive being pulled outta a plane, it'll be super fun having you around.”

“Heh. So was this some kind of test?” he questioned as they got closer to the ground.

“Yup. And you passed.” she beamed.

“Well, now its we're gonna do something I wanna do.” he said. “And no complaining, alright?”

“Fine.” she sighed as they soon landed. They got their stuff and Kaori gave him Kei's keys as he drove them off.

~

“Umm...” Kei smiled as he took in the aroma of the dinner Yui was cooking. He could clearly smell the salty, yet juicy scent of the pot roast as she took it out of the oven. She sighed, “I still can't believe she took your house key too...”

“Well, all of my keys are on that one chain...” he sighed, still staring at the delicious meat sitting right before him. “I just can't believe I forgot that. Thanks again for inviting me over for dinner.”

“It's not a problem. My brother's working late today so at least I have someone to accompany me for dinner.” she said as she saw his hungry face. “Go ahead and dig in.” He smiled ravenously as he did. They two ate as Kei asked, “So your brother? What does he do?”

“Oh, he's a manger of a music store in the mall. He takes care of other branches as well so he's been pretty busy lately.” she explained. “Your friend, Kaori right? The one who stole your keys? She's one of the people with god powers right?”

“Yea. She has Artemis' power over animals. Shapeshifting into any animal that comes to mind.” he stated. She thought, “Wow... that's really cool, don't you think?”

“I guess. But that ability is troublesome, especially since she's still learning how to control it.” he sighed. “You should've seen how hard it was for me to hide it from everyone when she changed every time she sneezed! It was so difficult.”

“Hehe. Well, you somehow got through it.”

“Yea. Surprisingly.” he beamed as she asked, “You two must be really close huh?”

“Yea, we grew up our whole lives together.” he beamed. “She's like the little sister I've never had... the troublesome little sister, haha...”

“Hm.” she smiled. “It's cute. How close you two are... since my brother and I started working, we haven't been as close as that in years.” Kei thought, “Well, maybe the two of you should have a vacation together. To make up for all that lost time? Or find some time during the day to spend even a little bit of time together... Kaori and I always have lunch together, on occasions with her sister and we even volunteer at the animal shelter together. That's why we're as close as ever...”

“I guess.” she said. “But with things going so well with his job, I don't want to get in the way. I get that he's busy. I am too... hopefully we'll get a break soon. The only time I really see him is during dinner and for breakfast.”

“Maybe you can plan a day out with him?” Kei suggested. “One day won't hurt. Go to the zoo! An amusement park! Anywhere!” She thought and smiled, “Alright. That sounds like a great idea! I'll suggest it to him as soon as he gets home.” The two began to finish dinner as Kei helped her clean up.

“Well, I should get going. Rini should be back by now.” Kei said grabbing his jacket.

“You sure you don't need a ride?” she asked.

“It's fine. The bus is close by and its already late.” he stated. “I'll see you around.” She waved as he headed off.

~

“Wow... really?” Kaori sighed as he parked in front of World Cuisine. He nodded, “Yup. I'm finally getting that dinner with you.” He got out of the car and quickly went over and opened the door for her. He held out a hand for her as she raised an eyebrow, “Wow, going all out huh?”

“Of course. I need to make a great impression for our first date.” he beamed as he escorted her in. He led her towards a reserved table as a candle sat in the center of the table as well and a violinist played a soft tune next to the table.

“Okay, when did you plan all this?” she wondered as he pulled out a seat for her and scooted it in when she sat. He smiled, “When you weren't looking obviously.” She smiled, “As sneaky as a ninja...”

“Haha sure am.” he said taking his seat in front of her. Waiters then placed a meal in front of them as they two began to eat. “So, what do you think so far?” Kaori thought, “Well, it's not as fun as you screaming like a little girl as we jumped outta a plane....”

“I did not scream like a little girl.” he pouted. She giggled, “Yea you did... its not as fun, but this is still pretty nice. The food is great as usual and its a good way to relax after that adrenaline rush.” He nodded, “My thoughts exactly.”

“Not to mention, the dessert is a total bonus~!” she smiled as she ate her delicious ice cream sundae. “Try some~!” She held her spoon towards him as he ate it. She smiled as he did, “Delicious.”

“I know, right?!” she beamed as he then asked, “So, on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your day with me?”

“Hmmm...” she thought. “Let's see... bugging me to go out with you... gluing to me and Kei during lunch.... stealing Kei's car with me... screaming like a girl outta a plane... and a delicious dinner.” He anxiously waited for an answer, “Well no doubt about it. This date's definitely an 11.”

“I know it suck-- wait, what?!” he said surprised. “You really like it?!”

“Yea, I told you. You're a fun guy, Yuto.” she giggled. “Not to mention it's really fun to mess with you.” He laughed, “I could say the same to you... so does this mean... I might be able to get more dates?”

“Hmmm, well see.” she stated. “and it depends on what we do on those dates.”

“So there will be more dates?” he beamed as she laughed, “Haha, you got me. Sure. There can be more. But enough for today... I'm exhausted.”

“Then let's get going.” he said as she nodded, “yea, I'll give you a ride home. Hopefully Kei's knocked out by the time I get home so he doesn't scold me for stealing his car.”

“Haha, hopefully. Let me know how it goes.” he smiled as she nodded and the two got into the car and drove off to Yuto's.

~

“Keito?!” Yuki called worried, but she still couldn't find him. The arcade was completely deserted as it had closed half an hour ago. Luckily the owner let her stay in until the storm went away. Just when she thought she should give up, she saw a familiar pair of shoes sticking out from underneath a clothed table. She snuck under to see Keito nervously shaking as he rocked back and forth on his butt.

“Hey... are you okay?” she wondered, sitting under the table with him.

“Y-y-yea...” he stuttered. “W-why wouldn't I be--” A loud sound of thunder came again as rain pounded on the ceiling of the building as Keito jumped and covered his ears, “Calm down! Calm down! It'll all go away soon! Just relax!”

“... you're afraid of thunder?” Yuki said understanding. But Keito was too scared respond. She sighed as scooted next to him as she grasp his hand. She began humming softly as he became a little more relax. She sighed softly, “Well, just wait here until the storm passes. Don't worry... Rest might help.” She began to hum again as he laid on her shoulder, feeling more comfortable. The sound of her humming was overpowering the pounding rain and deafening thunder. But soon, the two had fallen asleep.

~

“Another Watanabe?!” the police officer panicked. He and his team stood outside a house where another murder had taken place. Blood was all over the apartment room and the body was barely able to identify. This man, in his late 20's was a cousin the to Watanabe's killed in his last case. His men nodded as he told them, “Then its obvious now. This killer is murdering all the Watanabe's. The problem is his motive. Why is he killing them all? Revenge? Our main objective now is to locate all the family members they have and warn them off this murderer and try to find out who he.. or she may be.” The police scatter off the scene as a shadow smirked, mischievously.

~

~Daiki and Keito's office~

Darkness filled the messy office. Papers were scatter everywhere, books were left opened and articles were covering the desks completely. Through this darkness you can hear a tiny sound of a sort of electrical sound. A small light, beaming through a stone box, covered with greek art. Within the box, the golden locket of Gaea, is glowing. The glowing light, releasing a symbol. The symbol, is as dark as the room, in the shape of a helmet. The symbol... of Hades.
