Anime Cipher Chapter 10: The Remaining Browsers

Rating: M (due to language only)

Summary: 4 different stories all merge into one great adventure. Kiara Davis, a high school senior has no love greater than anime. But how will she react when some of her favorite anime characters are actually appearing in front of her own eyes? And not only that, but she gets pulled into their world as well! Could it be because of her own private code she created out of pure boredom? What is all this leading to?
{“How could you let this happen?!” an angry voice shouted through the Triad’s home. They and Yukio seemed to cringe at the sound of his voice. “That was your main job! Don’t let them escape!”

“But sir--” Kyoko began as he cut her off, “Enough! Now I have to inform her about this mess you four have put us in!” Yukio then stepped forward, “Sir. We could use this to our advantage.”

“How will it be an advantage for us?!” he screamed. “They have the almost complete team of Browsers now! That’s more troublesome for us!” He nodded, “But they aren’t complete yet. And we know who the last two members are.” Silence filled the room as the mysterious man thought, “I suppose you make a good point, Yukio... we must destroy them before the Sights and Browsers find them.” He turned to the Triad, “You three. Go find them and kill them.”

“Sir... who are these Browsers we’re seeking?” Ryuchi questioned as he growled, “Rendezvous with Akako outside of the Adeth prison. She’ll know what to do.” They nodded and left as the mysterious being came into view, but all that could be seen was a dark cloak that wrapped around him. Silence filled the room as Yukio questioned, “Sir?”

“... I know you’re listening...” he said strongly.

“What?” Yukio questioned as the man seemed to smirked, “She’s here... a Sight is listening.” And as the figure turned into view, dark brown, eyes stared intensely at her...}

“AAAH!!!” Kia screamed as she suddenly fell off her bed. “Wha... when did I--AH! Is that the time?! I’m late!” She quickly got dressed as she ran outta the house towards school.

“Kia!” she heard as she approached school. Hakufu ran by her, “Hey, how are you feeling?” She groaned, “Really exhausted... what happened?” She shrugged, “I don’t really remember... I black out after we teleported everyone out.”

“Same.” she sighed as she lit up, “I should as Daiki about that...”

“Daiki?” Hakufu wondered. She explained, “Oh right... you’re new to all this. Daiki is the one who’s been helping me understand all this. He’s the one whos been teaching me all about this Sight stuff, I guess because its his job or something. He’s originally from the anime world.”

“Daiki? He’s from the anime world?” she said unconvinced. Kia nodded, “Yeah, I was pretty freaked out about it too...” She thought and sighed, “Makes you wonder how many people we might know who is really an anime character...” Kia took a glance at everyone at her school as she said, “I never actually thought about that... but you make a really good point.” She laughed, “What everyone here was one?! That would be so cool!”

“Easy there... don’t want you dying from total fangirling.” Hakufu gave her a look as she giggled, “Oh shut up-- Oburi~!”

“Kia, Hakufu.” she smiled as they entered the classroom. She giggled, “I’m impressed Kia. You made it to class early.” She beamed, “I literally ran out of the house fifteen minutes ago. I have no idea how I made it here that fast.”

“Haha, it wouldn’t be you if you didn’t oversleep.” Oburi laughed. “Let me guess... the newest episode of Aluna, right?” Kia froze as they both turned to her. Hakufu questioned, “... Kia? Everything ok?” She was quiet as Oburi waved her hand in front of her face, “Kia... if you don’t hurry we’re gonna be late---”

“HOW COULD I FORGET?!!!” she screamed out loud, scaring Oburi, who jumped back. “I can’t believe I forgot about the newest episode of Aluna! What kind of fan am I?!” She began panicking as Hakufu sighed, “... well.. typical Kia being a fangirl...”

“You missed the episode?!” Oburi freaked out. “What is wrong with you?! I thought Aluna was your favorite series?!”

“It is! That’s why I can’t believe I missed it!” she sulked as Hakufu sighed, “... sometimes I wonder why I hang out with you guys...” She walked off as Kia and Oburi followed slowly, still panicking at Kia’s fangirl fail.

~

“Kia!” she heard during lunch period as she hung out with her two girlfriends. She beamed, “Daiki! Hey, how’re you feeling?!”

“Much better, thanks.” he smiled. “I feel like I haven’t see you three in forever?”

“It’s only been a couple of days.” Oburi giggled. “Don’t go over-exaggerating it.” He sighed, “Haha, sorry. Anyways, Kia, can you come by my place later so you can fill me in on what I’ve been missing?”

“... you’re asking Kia...” Hakufu gave him a look as he realized, “Oh, right... she sucks at school--”

“Hey! I do not!” she pouted. “I’m passing with two C’s and the rest are B’s! That’s still passing grades!” He laughed, “Haha, then how about we all have a study session later?” Oburi nodded, “Sure, we can do it at my place.” Hakufu and Kia nodded as Kia hinted to him, “Oh, and I need to fill you in... on what’s been going on in Serenity Kingdom...” He nodded as Oburi gave a look, “No way...Daiki, are you becoming an anime fan?!”

“Don’t get your hopes up...” he sighed. “Kia wouldn’t stop talking about it to me the other day... I decided to humor her so she’s been talking to me a lot about it.” Oburi gave in, “Damn, I thought if we could get you into it, maybe we could get Hakufu too...”

“... don’t even try.” she said bluntly.

“Anyways, I gotta get to P.E. I’ll see you guys later.” he said. The three girls nodded as he stopped, “Oh, Kia. Give me a call later ok? I need to talk to you about something.”

“Sure. Later.” she said as he rushed off. Oburi gave her a look as she questioned, “What?”

“So... are you and Daiki dating or something?” she teased as Kia defended, “What?! Where did you get a crazy idea like that?!” She laughed, “Avoiding the question... you obviously are. When did it happen?!”

“W-we are not dating! We’re just good friends ok?” she stuttered as Oburi gave her a look, “What happened to being ‘best friends’?”

“... it’s a long story...” she went quiet as Hakufu said, “... well... if it gets you that quiet... probably a subject to steer clear of.”

“... sorry, Kia... I didn’t mean to bring up anything painful...” Oburi apologized as she shook her head, “Don’t worry about it... I got Math in a few. So I’m heading off.” They nodded as Hakufu said, “We’ll see you after school ok?” She nodded and began walking, thinking to herself, ‘... Ray... give me some kind of sign... It’s been way too long. Are you missing? Or did you just leave without saying goodbye...’ She sighed as glanced out the window, only to be caught off guard at the sight.

~

“... I hope Kia’s ok...” Oburi said as she and Hakufu were released from English class, their last class of the day. “She seems... really out of it lately.” Hakufu just nodded, thinking to herself as they exited school. They waited by the gate for Kia and Daiki as she said, "... Even though we're her closest friend..." Oburi turned to look at Hakufu. "It seems... Besides her love for anime, we barely know anything about her..." Oburi thought and responded, "... Now that I think about it... When we use to mail each other, she mentioned how independent she was. Like always on her own, doing her own thing. She never really had friends... Except one."

"Daiki?" Hakufu questioned as Oburi shook her head, "No... I don't think they were friends yet. There was a girl she mentioned, someone she hung out with all the time sometime early last year..." She tried to remember as they soon heard, "Hey! Oburi! Hakufu!" Daiki approached them and laughed, "Kia late as usual..."

"So it seems." Hakufu sighed. They looked back at the school as Daiki asked, "is it just me? Or has something been really off with that girl?"

"Haha you noticed too..." Oburi laughed. Hakufu thought to herself as she turned to Daiki, "How long have you and Kia been friends?"

"Well, I've know her since freshman year, but then... we just sorta waved to each either and small talked. It wasn't until this semester that we actually got this close." He thought about it. "Why do you ask?"

"She got quiet after we called you two best friends." Oburi said. "Aren't you guys?"

"I consider us best friend..." He explained. "But as for Kia... I vaguely remember her mentioning someone. I don't know who she was personally, but she and Kia were inseparable." He smiled a bit as he remembered, "Those two... Were always smiling, laughing... I kinda felt jealous whenever I saw them. And when he best friend suddenly left... Kia was really out of it. Almost like she lost a part of herself. Kia was freaking out trying to find her friend... But I guess she gave into the fact she just left."

"Who was she? Kia's best friend?" Oburi wondered. He thought, "I think.... Her name was Rayna."

"... I don't get it... Hakufu stated. "They were best friends... Why would... This Rayna girl leave without telling Kia."

"Kia was freaking out about that too." He shrugged. "I dunno, but what else could It be?" Silence was between the trio as Daiki sighed, "Geez, what is taking that girl..." Hakufu sighed, "...I'll call her phone." She did, however, it went straight to voicemail. She looked at her phone, a bit worried, ".. you couldn't... be there... alone, could you?" The anime world came to mind, but she shook it off, hoping for the best.

~

"Hey! Hold on!" Kia groaned trying to catch up. "Would you slow down already?!" She trutted through the forest, trying not lose him as he shushed her, "Be quiet! Do you want them to find us?!"

"Geez..." She whispered angrily. "How did you even find me? And of all places, my school. And for the record, hanging from the roof of it was dangerous! What if someone saw you?!" He turned to her, " What does it even matter? I got to you and that was my mission. End of story.”

“What the hell did you need me for anyways?” she wondered as he answered, “Because you're a Sight. You're suppose to help."

"Keito..." She called to him, managing to stop him. She realized where he was getting at, "What happened?"

".... This." He said moving to a clearing where a campsite was completely wrecked. Torn fabric tossed everywhere, debris and ruined food spread out, the scent of smoke filled her nostrils as she gasped, "ugh... Looks like the Kirst got you good..."

"Not me." He moved towards a torn up tent, pulled the sheet away as Kia gasped, quickly turning away a bit grossed out. She stuttered, “W-What the hell happened? Wa- D-Did the Kirst...”

“Not just them... That group... the ones with powers.” he tried to explain. “The guy exploded on him....”

“Ryuichi.” she thought as she took a breath. She turned back to look at the super bloody and burnt body before her. His clothes were super burnt, barely even covering his marked body. Scabs, bruises, cuts, covered him completely, making him almost unrecognizable... but Kia... she knew who this was. She stared surprised, “... Yabu Kota... He’s on the Browser team too?”

“I suppose so, seeing as he’s here.” he pointed out. She looked and saw he was breathing, although very slowly she pulled out a pen, she now always keeps in her back pocket and scribbled on her arm. She then called, “Heal!” She focused her energy on Kota’s body as his injuries began to slowly vanish. She stumbled back a bit, soon realizing his severe injuries were taking up alot of her energy. She shook it off, still seeing bad burns and cuts. She confidently said, “Almost done...” She focused again, “Heal!” His body began to glow again, his injuries, soon faded away. Her legs grew weak as she lost her balance falling to the floor as Keito approached her, “You alright?”

“Yeah... I’ll be fine.” she said softly as she turned to Kota and smiled, “And it look... like he will be too.” Keito took a glance as he said, “Good. Now rest up. I need all the help I can get.”

“There’s more?” she sighed. He nodded, “One of my partners was captured. And so was his.” He pointed at Kota. “We gotta get them back.”

“Rikia right?” she thought. “And Karina.”

“Yeah. And as soon as that’s done-”

“You find the others.” she finished. “Ryutaro, Tsubasa, and your sister, Kyoumi.” He gave her a look as she smiled, “Don’t worry. They’re safe. They’re at Serenity with the guardians. I’ll take you there as soon as we get Rikia and Karina.” She thought and said, “But, I need to go back. To get some reinforcements.”

“Fine. Be back in two hours.” Keito told her as she nodded and soon focused back on her school, “Teleport!”

~

“Urgh... you know...” Daiki groaned as he got up. It’s been two hours since they have been studying at Oburi’s place and it was getting late. “I think I’m good for one day. I’m gonna head out.” Oburi nodded, “Okay. I’ll walk you out.”

“See ya, Hakufu.” Daiki waved as she did in response, and soon, felt her phone vibrate.

“Hello?” Hakufu answered as Oburi and Daiki left. “Kia? Where are you? We were waiting for almost an hour after school...”

“Anime world.” she said quickly. “Look. There’s a little dilemma with the Browsers. You still at Oburi’s?”

“Yea-”

“Okay, meet me at the end of her street. And bbring Daiki too. I need your guys’ help with this.” Kia told her as she responded, “Daiki left, but I’ll try to catch up. See you in a bit.” She hung up and quickly put her stuff in her bag as Oburi returned, “You taking off too?”

“Yeah, gotta get home.” she said. “See you tomorrow.”

“Bye.” she rushed out and ran down the street calling, “Daiki!” But as she looked down the long straight road, he was already gone. “He’s gone already?” She pulled out her phone and dialed his number as it went straight to voicemail. “Great, even his phone is off. Now what...”

“We’re just gonna have to go without him.” she heard as Kia came by. “Come on. We gotta hurry. I’ll explain when we get there.” Hakufu nodded as she took her hand and Kia said, “Teleport!”

~

“Keito.” he heard as he put up his guard. Kia gave him a look, “Relax. It’s me. Has Kota woken up yet?” He shook his head, “Still sleeping like a baby.” She went over to him as she introduced, “This is another Sight. Hakufu. Hakufu, Keito.”

“Hey.” she said as he nodded in response. Kia gave Kota, who was laying on his side snoring, a slight nudge. “Hey... Kota. We need you to wake up now...” He stirred a bit as she groaned, moving closer to his ear, “KOTA!”

“Wha--” he shot up, suddenly bumping heads with her. “OW!”

“Awww... didn’t need to get up so fast...” Kia pouted rubbing her forehead. He got up, “Geez, what the hell were you doing shouting in my--” He then looked around, “Shit... where’s Karina?”

“Taken away...” Keito said. “Along with Rikia.” Kia thought quietly to herself as she then said, “... last night... I had this dream... except, I don’t think it was actually a dream. I think I was here, just as a ghost or something....” She began to explain what had happened as Keito said, “But that doesn’t make any sense. They were captured, not killed.”

“I know... and that’s what’s throwing me off.” she said as Hakufu answered, “It’s a trap.” They all looked at her as Kota nodded, “That makes sense... Think about it. You disappoint your boss, you’re gonna want to get on his good side. So, he wants the two remaining browsers dead... but what if you can kill more? By luring the others into a trap.”

“... i expect nothing less from Karina’s partner.” Kia smiled. “Then we need to plan out a counter attack.” Keito groaned, “How about you take us to this Serenity, you mentioned... where the rest of my team is. With them and the guardians, we can all charge in. They can’t take us all on.”

“The moon is up, Keito. The Kirst will be there to back them up. There’s no guarentee that everyone will come out alive.” Kia remarked. Hakufu said, “But that doesn’t mean we can’t get more help.”

“Yet the longer we plan, talk, and try to get more help, the less time Karina and Rikia have.” Kota pointed out. Kia sighed, “Then this is what we’ll do. Hakufu, I need you to do a very important job for me.”

“What?”

“... Get Yuto to help us out.”

“Yuto?” she gave Kia a look. She nodded, “He’s a very good distraction. He could help. We just got to make him think he’s working on his own.” Kota stated, “I can handle that...” He went with Hakufu as Keito asked, “And what are we gonna do?”

“We’re gonna sneak into the Triads barrier.” she said, staring at the too familiar fort built a couple miles from them. “I got in once...”

“Which means it will be harder to get back in the same way.” he stated as she smirked, “I never said we were going the same way. It might me more heavily guarded. But it’s not impossible... especially for a Sight.”

~

"So... What are we doing again?" Hikaru questioned in a whisper as he and Yuto snuck around the Triads lair. He quickly said, "that annoying Sight we met got herself in a jam again..."

"Kiara?"

"Yeah... Her friend Hakufu managed to get ahold of me. Said she needed a hand." He softly explained. Hikaru gave him a look, "and... You're actually going to help them?"

"That's just a side thing." He sighed. "Hakufu was with someone. Kiara, stupid move, went to retrieve something for him. Alone."

"Weird.... She doesn't seem like the type to work alone." He responded as Yuto shrugged," Doesn't matter... What does matter is what she was attempting to get..." Hikaru awaited an answer as Yuto smirked, "The location of the scroll." Hikaru went wide-eyed, "THE scroll??! You mean-"

"Sh!" He glared. "Yes that scroll. But if you be any louder, your gonna make things difficult." He moved on as Hikaru questioned quietly, "How do you know... It could've been a trap... Maybe that's how Kia got caught. There's no way we'll know for sure it's there."

"It's not, but someone who knows the location has to be there." Yuto said
"... That guy... The one with Hakufu." He continued. "He knew about the four barriers you mentioned."

"He knew about that?" He said surprised. "But how? I barely found that out..." Yuto shrugged, "Dunno. But if he knew about that, he should know where to look. Therefore... Here we are." They stood in front of the gate to the lair as hikaru gave him a look, "Seriously? We're just gonna go right through the door?" He shrugged, "I'm a Sight. What do I have to worry about?"

"Trap."

"Once again, Sight." He smirked as he said, "Appear. Swords." One sword appeared in each of his hands as he made way for Hikaru, "Now can you break the gate down?" He sighed as he took a breath and released a loud sound wave from his scream. As it hit the gate, it took a moment, but with a hit from Yuto's sword, the gate came crashing down. The duo stood on the now broken gate as the saw an army of Kirst before them. Yuto chuckled, "Hmm... Easy training... Lets do this." He charged in as Hikaru sighed, "Sometimes I really question your tactics..." He jumped into the battle, watching Yuto's back.

~

"... I can't believe they actually came." Kia whispered happily to the others. "What did you two tell him?"

"We--" Keito cut Hakufu off, "We can talk about that later... Rikia and Karina are more important right now." Kota nodded, "Doesn't matter how we did it, they're distracting so lets do our part."

"Okay..." Kia sighed. The four were quietly walking through the dark hallways, invisibly as Kia asked, "Hakufu, can you hold the invisibility while I try to locate them?"

"I'll do my best." She said as Kia strayed her focus away from being unseen. She scribbled on her arm and said, "Search! Rikia Sakuratsuki!" The portal appeared as it soon showed the weak Rikia and knocked out Karina chained on a dungeon wall.

"Where is that at?" Keito questioned as Kia looked around. "Beats me... It's not like there's maps for this place..." She thought and lit up, "Hey! Maybe this will work!" She scribbled something on her arm again as she called, "Transport! Portal!" The portal glowed as she moved towards in, slowly placing her hand through it. She lit up, "It works! Come on!" She walked through it as the other three hesitated for a moment, but followed suit.

"Keito!" He heard a cry of relief as Rikia looked at him happily. Kia scribbled again, “Unlock.” Soon the chains released their arms as Rikia got up, hugging Keito and Kota helped Karina. “Great timing... I suppose that was your distraction at the front gate.”

“Theirs actually.” he motioned to Hakufu and Kota. “Now, let’s get outta--” He moved, but not quick enough. A sai had scraped across his cheek, leaving a long cut on the left side of his face. He glared, “Of course.... It just had to be you guarding them.”

“Heh. I missed you too Keito.” Yukio teased as he fidgeted with his other sai. “It’s been a while since we’ve had a little fun.”

“You’re not exactly the type of person I’d want to have fun with.” he scowled as Yukio, easily seeing through him, dodged the swing of Rikia’s scythe. He smirked as he jumped and spun a kick, knocking her down, near Keito. She groaned, “Man... I’d hope I had gotten him...”

“He wouldn’t have openings so easily.” he pointed out as Yukio smiled, “And that’s why you’re my favorite target.”

“That... or because of who he is?” Kia pointed out as everyone went quiet. She smiled, “That right... I know about your history... you want revenge on him right? But you want him to suffer so you’re always toying with hi--” She ducked to avoid his other sai as he glared, “There’s nothing I hate more than an annoying pest who doesn’t know when to shut up.”

“Hm. Seems like I struck a nerve.” she smirked as she move toward him, trying to separate him from Keito and Rikia. “You hate the fact that I know so much about you... don’t you?” He growled, “Don’t be such a smartass--” An explosion appeared behind him as Yuto, panting exhausted with HIkaru just as bad came in. They stared at the group for a moment and the thought struck them. He groaned, “Oh, man... we fell for some kind of trick, didn’t we?” Kia beamed, “You sure did.”

“Where the hell are the Triad?!” Yukio groaned as he went for Kia, being the nearest one to him, but just in the knick of time, she dodged his punch and said, “Sleep!” The words on her arm glowed as he suddenly fainted.

“And now... let’s get outta here!” Kota said, picking up Karina as Hakufu nodded. They all grabbed a hold of each other as they felt rumbling approaching. The Kirst. Kia quickly turned to Hikaru and Yuto, “Are you guys coming with us?!”

“Forget it. We’ll get outta here ourselves.” he glared, apparently really pissed off he had been used. She sighed but quickly said, “Teleport! Serenity!” And with that, they vanished, leaving Hikaru and Yuto.
“We, should probably teleport outta here too.” Hikaru suggested. He hesitated and sighed, “I would... If I had any energy left to do so.” Hikaru gave him a look, “What?! Then we should’ve gone with them!”

“We can handle ourselves!” He said confidently, raising his sword in defense. “We can get outta here without their help.” He charged out, where the Kirst were waiting and began trying to slice his way through. Hikaru sighed, “... We can’t keep going on like this Yuto...” He went in after, doing his best to protect Yuto.
