Bad Luck Birthday

Author: Nikki
Pairing: Yuto Nakajima X OC
Type: One-shot
Summary: Yuto has always hated his birthday because it always seemed to give him bad luck. Can his girlfriend and best friend plan him a party without anything going wrong?

“No.” Yuto said as he and his girlfriend walked home from school together. She pouted, “But why not? It's a special occasion! We should go out together.” He answered, “I.. I have stuff to do tomorrow, Riko. So please don't plan anything.” He stopped in front of her house and said, “I'll see you on monday...” He gave her a kiss on the cheek and left. She sighed, “Why don't you want to celebrate your birthday tomorrow...” Then an idea struck her. She got her phone and called a number, “Ryo-chan? Do you mind if I come to your place in a little while? Great! See you soon.”

“His birthday?” Ryosuke, Yuto's childhood friend asked. Riko nodded, “Yea, he doesn't want to celebrate it. I really wanted to have a party with him and all our friends... but...” He told her, “Don't worry about it. He's like this every year since his 9th birthday...he never seemed to have a good birthday...”
“Aw, come on... it couldn't have been that bad..” she thought as he stated, “On his 9th birthday, he and his friends were playing catch at the park. His friend threw the ball to him but it ended up hitting a beehive and Yuto got chased and stung by bees...”
“Ouch... at least he's alright.” she said. He continued, “On his 10th, some of the food they had wasn't good and he and everyone else at the party got food poisoning. They were vomitting for a week.” She gave a look, “Ew...”
“The year after the dog he grew up with died of old age.” he said. “Then on his 12th birthday, he tripped and crashed into his favorite drum set. It was totally ruined. And 13th, none of his friends could show up because they were all busy.”
“Damn... that really sucks...”
“Since then, he's always hated his birthday. He always thought it brought back luck to him.” he explained. “He just stays home, locked in his room the entire day.” She sighed, “Well still. Sure those were some pretty bad birthdays, but it won't be like that forever... we've only been together for three months... I was really looking forward to spending his birthday with him...”
“I already told you... Don't worry about it.” he said. “Yuto's fine without celebrating--” She lit up, “Ryosuke! Let's plan him a surprise party!”
“Did you not just hear everything I said?” he gave her a look. “He doesn't want one--”
“Because he thinks that his birthday is bad luck. But if we can prevent the bad luck... maybe he'll start trying to celebrate it again.” she explained. “Come on! Please!” He sighed, “Alright, fine, but we have to make sure, nothing bad happens to him.”
“Right!” she nodded excited.

Ring Ring Ring
“... Hai?” Yuto hesitantly answered his cell phone. It was after lunch and he was still in his room. His parent went to work for a little while as his brother was playing video games downstairs. His heart lifted a little from his depression as he heard, “Yuto! Happy Birthday!” He smiled, “Arigatou, Riko.”
“I hope you have a great birthday today. I really wished I could celebrate it with you.” she told him as he stated, “Don't worry about it... we could always celebrate your birthday together.” She giggled, “But my birthday isn't until April.” He shrugged, “That's fine.” There was a small silence as she then asked, “Ne... Yuto? Can I ask you for a favor?”
“Yea, what is it?” he said as he heard his brother called, “Yuto-nii-chan! Can you help me out here?!” He answered, “Alright, Raiya. Give me a minute, Riko.” She answered, “Yea... sure.” He opened his room door as a surprise face grew on his face. A loud pop noise was made as they yelled, “SURPRISE!” Streamers fell around them as Yuto saw a bunch of food and decoration were made downstairs. All his friends were there as well as his family. “You look speechless...” He saw Riko in front of all the boys with a smile as he asked, “What's gong on?”
“It's your birthday, Yuto.” Keito smiled to him. Yuri nodded, “Yea, its a special day so you should celebrate it with your friends.” He groaned, “You know how I feel about my birthday...” Riko told him with a smile, “Come on, Yuto. This isn't like you! Where's that loud energetic guy I fell in love with?! Have some fun! Sure you've had some bad birthdays in the past, but if you think that every year it will be bad then it will! Expect yourself to have a fun birthday and it will be fun!” He thought unsure, “... well... fine I'll try a celebration this year...” Everyone cheered as they all went down to celebrate.
“See, this isn't so bad right?” Ryutaro told him as Yuto nodded, “Surprisingly it isn't. First time in a long time...” They continued to chat by the drinks with Keito and Yuri as Ryosuke smiled, “Nice work, Riko. He's actually enjoying himself.” She nodded, “I'm glad I could help him get over his phobia of his birthday--”
“Riko!” Ryosuke interrupted as he pointed at Yuto. He was going to lean on the table, right where the bowl of fruit punch was. She quickly hurried over with Ryosuke as she grabbed Yuto and pulled him away, “Hey! How about we play some games?!”
“Sure--”
“Ugh.” Ryosuke groaned as they looked to see his clothes covered in punch. He gave Riko a look as she gave a little smile. Yuto laughed, “Ryo, be careful! You can go wash up in my room and borrow some of my clothes...”
“Thanks...” he sighed as Riko said, “I'll clean up this mess. The rest of you boys go ahead and play something.” They nodded and took turns playing video games. As soon as she finished, she sat next to Yuto and joined them. Ryosuke soon returned as Riko went over to him. He said, “Nice save over there...” She nodded, “I didn't think it would spill on you though...”
“Whatever... as long as nothing bad happens to Yuto, he'll stop being so paranoid on his birthday.” he said as he looked at him. “Be sure to watch at for everything...”
“Like that...” Riko said as she pointed worried. Keito stood over Yuto, who sitting on the couch, watching them play, but the plate holding his food was tilting and his food looked like it was about to fall on Yuto.
“I got it!” Ryosuke rushed over and called, “Keito!”
'What?” he asked as he turned his body to face Ryosuke, accidently pushing his plate into Yamada's clothes. He jumped back, “Oh, not again.” Riko held in a laugh as Yuto bursted, “Haha again Ryosuke?!”
“Gomen, Ryosuke.” Keito apologized. “It was an accident.” He sighed, “It's ok...” For the rest of that day, Riko and Ryosuke made sure nothing bad happened to Yuto.
“Urgh... is the party almost over...” Ryosuke groaned as he fell on the couch. Riko told him, “Aw come on. Don't ruin the party!”
“Well after getting covered in food and drinks for the tenth time, I'm exhausted of running around taking all the bad luck for him...” he gave her a look. She smiled, “Haha, at least you can make him laugh on his birthday...” He nodded, “yea. It's been a while since I've seen him happy on his birthday.”
“Well, don't worry. All that's left is his birthday cake and then you can head home.” she stated as she got up. “Keito, go grab the cake.” He nodded as she went over to Yuto, mingling with Yuri and Ryutaro as I asked, “So, do you still hate your birthday?” He hugged her, “Nope. This has seriously been the best birthday ever. Thanks.”
“It wasn't just me. Thank Ryosuke and everyone else too.” she beamed. “Now come on! You still need to blow out your candles!” Keito brought out the strawberry cake as everyone stared, “It looks so good!!” Keito lit the candles as they sang happy birthday.
“Make a wish!” Riko told him as he did and blew the candles. Yuto smiled, “Minna, arigatou. I really enjoyed today.” They all nodded as Ryosuke said, “Now let's have cake!”
“Hold on, Buta. Yuto gets the first slice.” Riko stopped him from getting the cake. She cut it and placed one on a plate and gave it to Yuto. She smiled, “Let me know how it taste. I tried to make it as perfect as possible.”
“I call the next piece!” Ryosuke said as Yuri complained, “But I wanted the next one!” The two argued as Ryosuke accidently bumped into Yuto, pushing him right into his slice of cake. Riko gasped, “Ryosuke!” He flinched, “Oops.. Sorry Yuto...” He lifted up his head, his face now covered with cake frosting as they all awaited a reaction. Yuto licked the frosting off his lips, “Umai~! Riko, this cake is so good!” They all sighed in relief.
“Let us have some!” everyone else shouted as she nodded, “Hai~!” Yuto was happily eating what was left of his cake slice as he said, “Never skipping my birthday ever again! Thanks a bunch, minna!”
“Happy Birthday Yuto!” they all said again.
