Summary: Ryelie has no idea what had happened to her in the last year. Her friends and family tell her that she was just clumsy and injured herself, but she knows that there's more to it. What really happened to her? Why won't her best friends tell her anything? She's just about to give up hope when she overhears an interesting conversation one night. Her parents discuss what to do about a certain trial with someone named Jared. Who is he and what does he have to do with her family?
“Riki...” her parents called to her one day. It was the week before her trial with Jared. She was home alone with them today. Kei had an interview and Hikaru and Nina went out on a date. “Are you ready for the trial?” She thought, “I'm a little nervous... I dunno what I'm gonna do. I can't remember him very well...” Her parents looked at each other as her mother sighed, “... Well... if you want. You can see him... If you see him... you might remember...”
“But its up to you honey...” her father told her. She thought, “If I'm gonna win this trial... I have to know who he is. I'm gonna see him.”
“Pantel is here.” Riki heard as the door opened and a guard let him in. Riki felt her stomach bubbling as he came in and sat in front of her. His messy short black hair stood out, his bangs fell just above his light brown eyes. He had a strong, handsome looking face, making her think of the time they first met. But she ignored that feeling, remembering the shiver his voice gave her. She shook a bit, nervously. It was only her and Jared in that room... minus the guard standing on the side. A chill went down her spine as he spoke, “Well... been a while Ryelie. How've you been?”
“S-Surprisingly great no thanks to you.” she said strongly. She thought, hoping she would remember something, but she had no luck. “These last few months with you in prison has been the best!” He laughed, “Too bad it won't last.”
“Wha--” she flinched a bit scared, but tried to remain strong. “It will last! I'll make sure it does by keeping you here!”
“Ha! What a laugh! You are truly a jokester, Ryelie.” he chuckled. “How do you expect to keep me here if you can even remember what happened? I didn't do anything to you.”
“Yes you did!” she stated upset.
“And your proof?” he raised an eyebrow. He had an annoying smirk on his face, one that made Riki's blood boil. He sighed, “Thought so... all you have is what your friends tell you. Do you believe everything they say?”
“...so what if I do?” she questioned.
“Not everything someone says is the truth...”
“I know that.”
“So you can't always believe your friends.” he explained. “They could be lying for all you know.” She glared at him, “They wouldn't lie to me about this! I might not remember Kei and Hikaru too well... but I've know Nina forever. I trust her completely.”
“Heh, you really should watch out who you trust... wasn't Nina the one always trying to get you into a relationship?”
“What's your point?”
“Why do you think she wants you in a relationship? So she can bring your hopes up and then tear your relationships to shreds...” he said as Riki stood up angrily slamming her hands on the table, “That's a lie!”
“Is it?” he wondered. “Then why did was she flirting with me a month after we got together?”
“And I suppose you have proof of that?” she growled annoyed as he smiled, “Well, if I had my phone, I might be able to show you some of the old text messages she sent me.” He then laughed, “And not only that... she's the one who lead me right to you.”
“She would never do that. I f I know anyone, I'd know Nina. Your lies are just too unrealistic.” she said unconvinced.
“It's your choice whether to believe it or not. I'm just stating the facts.” he said maliciously. “Haha, and don't even get me started on that rich playboy of a friend you have. If anyones a liar, its him.”
“Don't talk about Kei like that!” she said pissed. “He's not a liar! He would never do anything to hurt me.” He chuckled again, “Ryelie, Ryelie, Ryelie. You are too naïve. There are plenty of fakers in the world. He may act like your friend but he isn't.”
“How would you know?! You don't know him!”
“I know enough. He's a playboy and a spoiled rich kid. And worse than that, he's involved with gang fights.”
“Was...” she interrupted.
“Just because he said he doesn't fight anymore doesn't make it true.” he pointed out. “Truth is... everything that happened... your injures, the amnesia... it was all his fault.”
“Shut the hell up!” she screamed. “Kei wouldn't ever do that to me! Never in his life! It was all you!”
“Wouldn't he?” he stated. “Look, I may have started this whole thing, but I was just really upset about our break up alright? I apologize about getting all psycho ex-boyfriend back at home... but everything that happened here... I didn't do any of it.”
“Do you really think I'd believe you?!” she said offended. “How stupid do you think I am?!”
“You're not stupid... I'm telling you the truth Rye. I'm helping you out...” he said sincerely. “I just want to put the real culprit behind bars.”
“..Look, I didn't come here to listen to your lies. I can to find answers.” she told him seriously. He nodded, “And I want to help you...” She was silent as he told her, “Rye. I can prove just how bad Kei really is. I saw him! He paid some gang to kidnap you and framed me!”
“It seems really unlikely.”
“Ask the gang then.” She groaned, “I'm not gonna believe the guys who kidnapped me! If you aren't gonna tell me, I'm outta here...” She headed for the door as he smiled, “I know you Rye... you won't let the culprit run around free, endangering more people... you'll give him what he deserves. I'll be waiting for you.”
“Damn... I didn't get anything...” Riki sighed as she began heading home. “Stupid Jared... all he did was piss me off. They would never do that to me... Hikaru, Nina, and Kei... they all care too much...” She thought silently to herself. “They wouldn't...” As she walked home thinking, she wasn't watching where she was going and accidently bumped into someone.
“Ah... sorry--” she stopped as she saw three guys, dressed in leather jackets, dark clothing. But what scared her the most was that she had seen them before somewhere. They were apart of the gang that kidnapped her.
“Hey... you're pretty cute...” they smirked. “Why don't you hang out with us?”
“Uh, no thanks... I really gotta get home...” she said nervously as she tried to go past them. One smiled, “We'll take you home... after a little fun of course. Maybe a ride on our motorcycles?” She shook her head, “No, I really need to go.”
“Come on. Every girl has to get out sometimes.” another one smirked as he grabbed her wrist.
“hey... haven't we seen her somewhere before...” the third guy stated. She flinched, hoping they wouldn't recognize her. The two other boys took a closer look at her.
“Let go...” she glared pulling her arm free from them. “I really need to go!”
“Ah!” one said as he grabbed her wrist again. “Now I remember! Inoo Kei's girlfriend!” They all had smirks on their face as she said, “I'm not his girlfriend...”
“Sure, you're not...” they smiled maliciously at me. “Now we've got an even better reason to have some fun with you.” She then quickly ran off, running as fast as she could trying to get away. Her heart raced as she felt fear rising through her body.
“Can't run forever!” she heard as their voices got closer and closer. She went to turn the corner, but stopped. A dead end. She turned as the three gang members came. She was trapped.
“No where to go now...” they laughed in victory. She looked around trying to find someway to get outta there, but there was nothing. One of them grabbed her arm as she swung her purse, hitting him to the ground.
“Don't touch me!” she growled. “Look, just back off! I don't want any trouble.”
“Urgh... you bitch! That hurt!” he groaned in pain as he slapped her to the ground. She ground, “Urgh...” The guys stood over her as they glared, “You'll regret that--” A punch came in contact with one of the guy's face as he was hit into the others.
“Come on!” Kei said, quickly grabbing Riki and began running. The guys, as soon as they got back on their feet, went after them. Riki looked as she said, “They're catching up Kei!” He looked around and ran towards a building under construction, “We'll lose them in here!”
“Wha-- we aren't suppose to be here!” she said.
“It's either this or with them!” he answered as they entered the building. He then spotted the front desk and pulled her under it. “We'll hide here.”
“We aren't gonna fit!” she panicked as she heard footsteps. Kei sat under the desk and pulled Riki on top of him. Her back rested on his chest as he hugged her tightly. They stayed absolutely still and quiet as the footsteps got closer and closer.
“Check the upper floors. They've got to be around here somewhere.”they heard one of them say. The footsteps walked away as Riki whispered, “Should we get outta her now?” He shook his head, “There's windows on the side of the building. They might see us running out. We've got to wait for them to leave.”
“But who know how long they'll take...”
“It's better to be safe than sorry.” he told her as she sighed and nodded. So they sat there quietly waiting. They waited and waited, but soon fell asleep.
